We're a hard-working, professional team with plenty of experience, enthusiasm and ambition. Our diverse skills complement each other perfectly to create a breadth of knowledge and passion to give clients the very best across the PR and marketing spectrum. Working closely with clients is a key part of our approach - it’s the best way to fully understand each business, appreciate individual needs and get the right results.

Managing Director

I began my working life as an officer in the Royal Air Force. As well as learning how to erect a bivvy and cross a river with just ropes and a jerry can, I got used to performing under pressure, keeping going when things get tough and appreciating variety.

Perhaps most importantly, I learnt the value of enjoying what you do and who you work with.

For the last 14 years, I've been working in PR and marketing both in-house and in agencies, working with a wide variety of clients. The potential of PR and marketing to make a significant difference to organisations is really exciting to me and seeing the results of our work on clients’ businesses is hugely satisfying. With experience including national charities, healthcare, international events, construction and tourism, I love the challenge of responding to different needs in diverse markets.

Associate Senior Account Director

I’ve spent plenty of hours on PR’s rock face during my 20 years of experience in the industry. Before I joined Pillar, I worked in-house at large corporate organisations - including the Universities of Sheffield and Teesside – and at an independent agency where my accounts included manufacturing, tourism, professional services and public sector clients.

One of my key areas of expertise is developing media campaigns that earn maximum exposure for clients and I love being part of their success. The fact thawe treat each client as an individual and carefully tailor our activity to their needs means that I get to work on a wide variety of projects, from multi-faceted company ‘make-overs’ to one-off product launches. I really enjoy developing brand awareness through the creation of websites, promotional literature, social media and beyond and I’m really proud of the way we always go the extra mile to get top results.

Company Secretary and Finance Manager

As I came to the end of a long and varied career in aviation in 2011, I entered the somewhat different world of PR. As an RAF pilot I flew the Harrier for a number of years and also qualified as a flying instructor. Management jobs included HR Manager and command of a Harrier squadron and an RAF station. Leaving the RAF in 1999, I joined Cobham plc, becoming their base manager at Teesside Airport from 2001-2011, and continued to fly as a pilot throughout this period.

My main jobs at Pillar are overseeing the business delivery, media monitoring and I am also the first point of contact for bills and invoices. My new-found skills in the minutiae of administrative support, including being the office barista (when I am not cycling in the Scottish Isles or walking in the Alps), ensure that our account directors are able to give our clients (and Locksley) their full attention.

Consumer Behaviour Consultant

After a degree in communications, I cut my teeth in management and training with Royal Mail before focusing on training and business invigoration. For more than 12 years, I've specialised in behavioural training, helping organisations to get the best from their people and provide great service.

What I give Pillar is an insight into the ‘whys, whos and hows’ of consumer (human) behaviour. Understanding what motivates and influences people helps give Pillar an edge when developing strategies and communications for maximum impact.

Office Dog

My Kennel Club name is ‘Fieldvale Freedom Forever’ and I joined Pillar in January 2008 when I was just 8 weeks old. Although I am supposed to be a working cocker, my main role at Pillar is soaking up as much attention (and treats) as possible. You won’t hear me when you ring the office as I’m very well behaved and only bark about once a month. On the days that I do go into work, my favourite part of the office day is lunchtime when I get to run around the beautiful grounds at Aske Hall.
